Commercial Gas Engineer

Purpose of Job:

Our business is organised in regional teams of up to 20 commercial engineers who work in concert with our central technical support team to deliver, service, repair, maintain and install the full spectrum of commercial building services.   You and your colleagues will be the customer facing powerhouse of our business within your region with a portfolio of key clients and sites.


Key areas of accountability:

  • Inspecting and maintaining gas appliances, central heating plant and plant room equipment.
  • Attending, including out of hours, reactive, diagnostic and emergency repair calls including liaison with colleagues and suppliers to obtain information on parts, costs and lead times.
  • Installing and carrying out site works associated with the installation of gas appliances, central heating plant and plant room equipment
  • Where appropriate to do so, providing our site based client teams with guidance on the operation and management of their assets and advising them when their plant needs to be replaced or up-graded rather than repaired.
  • Providing data to support the creation of quotations (including equipment, parts and labour).
  • To deliver our contracted performance targets and CMS expectations including:
    • Health & Safety
    • Work standards
    • PACE – Profit after controllable expenses
    • Conformity with our core processes and workflows
  • To be the Subject Matter Expert for one of your regional team’s key technical competencies

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Able to pass a DBS check for relevant convictions
  • Current ACS Qualifications / Commercial gas safe registered plumber
  • Experienced in Commercial Mechanical Services, Heating and Hot Water Services
  • Confident style, presentable and personable
  • Current Driving License and able to work in the UK


  • Knowledge of electrical systems ideally Part P qualified
  • Catering systems
  • Laundry systems
  • Experienced in estimating minor works (<£5k)

Job Description:

CMS UK Limited are an established and national commercial building maintenance company with a head office based in the North East of England. We supply a wide range of building service and engineering support to blue chip companies, Nursing Home Groups, Hospital trust to name a few.

We are looking for mobile maintenance/ installation electricians qualified to UK Level 3 NVQ, 17th edition. 2391 test and inspection preferred, to carry out all works associated with the installation, testing, servicing repair, maintenance & commissioning of all Electrical Services


The ideal candidate will have a ‘can do’ attitude and be willing to turn their hand to various M&E tasks as required
Willing to work flexible hours and a reasonable amount of overtime & be part of a 1 in 5 call out rota.
We will expect you to abide by our Health & Safety procedures & to play an active role in our on-line H&S Training program
All works associated with the installation, testing, & commissioning of all Electrical Systems shall be carried out with a working knowledge & understanding of the NICEIC & IEE Regulations applicable to the Electrical Systems on which such works are to be carried out & be able to complete the relevant certification.
Must be able to work with the minimum of instruction/supervision if required to do so.
Mentoring and assessing of apprentices
Preparation of maintenance reports


  • Qualified to UK Level 3 NVQ, 17th Edition Current ACS Qualifications
  • 2391 test and inspection preferred
  • Current Driving License
  • Ability to Work in the UK


  • Carrying out planned preventative & reactive maintenance
